Fifty-eight people killed. More than 500 injured. And yet, nearly a month after the Las Vegas Strip experienced the worst mass shooting in modern American history, local and federal authorities are refusing to fill in the blanks. In the days after Oct. 1, when Stephen Paddock opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest festival crowd from his Mandalay Bay corner suite, Las Vegas police were hosting multiple news conferences a day. They released a comprehensive timeline, which ended up being wrong. They took it back, and tried to clarify the errors, but instead caused more confusion. At least twice this week, the Las Vegas Review-Journal has asked to speak with Sheriff Joe Lombardo about the shooting investigation. Both times, reporters were told by Carla Alston, the Police Department’s director of communications, that the sheriff “will not be conducting interviews.”

Amari Cooper caught 11 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns last week, earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Cooper joined legend Tim Brown as the only wide receivers in Raiders history to be given the weekly award. His single-game yardage total was the second-highest in franchise history behind only Art Powell’s 247 yards in 1963. The low-key Raiders wide receiver stayed true to form when he met with reporters but didn’t bask in the glow from his career game. “I just play, man,” Cooper said. “I try to play good every week. If it doesn’t happen, I just move on. If I do play good, I do the same thing. I just move on.”

Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington will assume the bulk of Sunday’s workload against the Buffalo Bills, as Marshawn Lynch serves a suspension . While Lynch’s absence figures to be felt, this won’t necessarily be a worse offense without him. “They have a little more quickness; they catch the ball a little easier,” coach Jack Del Rio said. Richard said he is interested to “see how much they feel a threat of me and D-Wash and our offense in this type of style without Marshawn.”
