Wide-Roaming Comedy

Eddie Izzard already squelched any "too smart for Vegas" garbage in late April.

It was then that a second show was added for today at the Palms, after Izzard’s first announced date on Saturday sold out. The British comedian fits many definitions of a cult hero. But thanks to HBO, it’s a big cult.

• Shoe In: Paris Hilton will debut her new fall shoe collection at Macy’s in Fashion Show mall on Tuesday. Drop by for a sneak peak at Paris’ super stylish, ultra-comfortable and perfectly priced footwear. The first 300 to purchase Paris Hilton shoes between July 19 and July 29 will be able to meet the heiress and receive a signed photo at the event on Tuesday. The collection features the hottest runway-ready and red-carpet worthy looks of the upcoming season in a rich fall color palette — all priced from $59 to $195. Each pair rocks hot pink soles, a pink “comfort heart” cushion sewn into the inner sole, and a recycled eco-conscious box equipped with handles built in, thereby eliminating the need for a shopping bag and further reducing waste.

Blazing Trails

Think of it as your VIP card at work. The perfect blazer sends a strong message of professionalism. That doesn’t mean it should strip you of your creative side, though. Incorporate the same flair you would out-of-the-office with this garment.

With Child, With Style

It used to be that two lines on the pregnancy test strip meant nine months of frump. Muu muus, overalls and redundant message tees (“Baby on board”) were all moms-to-be had to choose from in wardrobe options. Today, women go full term without skipping a style beat. So, who’s to thank for the change? Celebrities and their high-profile pregnancies.

Skip the Suds

Whether you don’t have time to wash your hair or you intentionally skip a day, no one wants the unwashed look. Somehow oily build up and dull, dry ends never leave a good impression. To the relief of you and your unwashed hair, the beauty industry has developed ways to forego the shower without anyone being the wiser: dry shampoos and spray-in conditioner. The former disguises any unkemptness by absorbing oil and the latter detangles hair and refreshes your overall look. Now you can skip the hat day or the quickie ponytail for any hair style you choose.

Back to the Future

Annie Creamcheese, the vintage of the future boutique at the Shoppes at the Palazzo, put on a fashion show Monday that was a real blast from the past. Vintage garments from the authorities in high fashion like Chanel, Pucci and Yves Saint Laurent walked the runway, as well as funky new lines. Sunset Tan’s Janelle Perry hosted the show inside the Cathouse Loungerie’s ultra lounge at the Luxor. Here’s a look at the outfits that graced the runway.

History class

Those who do not know their history, as Mr. Santayana warned, are doomed to repeat it. But as Jay Leno has fun demonstrating by taking his “Tonight Show” cameras out on the sidewalk from time to time, the typical young American on the street today has trouble remembering against whom we fought the American Revolution.

Exemplars of rectitude, fiscal sanity

Considering the performance of the two elected obstetricians most recently in the national eye, it’s intriguing to speculate how much better off the country might be if we could send the 533 big spenders currently holding down seats in Congress on an extended world cruise, replacing them for a term or two with randomly selected members of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, requiring only that they read aloud Article I Section 8 of the Constitution (the powers of Congress) before taking their seats.

Housing heads to new lows

The Las Vegas housing market is flying close to the bottom but giving mixed signals as to where the actual ground may be, housing analyst Larry Murphy said Thursday.

Community Bancorp shares slide on quarterly profit loss

Community Bancorp shares plummeted Thursday on the Nasdaq National Market as the banking company reported a second-quarter net loss of $4.6 million and a quantum leap in nonperforming loans.
