A closer look at multiple myeloma [Infographic]
(BPT) - March is Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month. Multiple myeloma is a progressive blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow and is the second-most common type of blood cancer with an estimated annual incidence of 114,250+ cases around the world. Despite recent advancements, it remains largely incurable, and fewer than half of patients survived five years after diagnosis (based on U.S. data from 2004-2010).
For some patients, the disease course of multiple myeloma is characterized by a pattern of remission and relapse, which can have a significant impact on a patient. Research is evolving in multiple myeloma.
