51s come up short again vs. Sky Sox

The 51s fell to 0-3 with a 6-4 loss to the Sky Sox on Saturday in a Pacific Coast League game at Colorado Springs, Colo.

Las Vegas starter Bradley Mills gave up six runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings

With the score tied at 1 in the third inning, Mills gave up an RBI double to Daniel Ortmeier. One out and two walks later, Edwin Bellorin hit a two-run single to put the Sky Sox (3-0) ahead 4-1.

An error in the fourth inning led to Matt Miller's one-out RBI single off Mills, who then recorded a flyout before leaving the game. Miller then scored on a Matt Murton double off Jonah Bayliss to make the score 6-1.

The 51s rallied with three runs in the sixth inning, but they could draw no closer. Randy Ruiz opened the inning with a double, and Brett Harper followed with an RBI single.

J.P. Arencibia then got hit by a pitch, and Buck Coats' sacrifice bunt moved Ruiz to third and Arencibia to second. Angel Sanchez struck out, but Howie Clark's line-drive single to right field off Sky Sox starter Jason Hirsh scored Harper and Arencibia to make the score 6-4.

Colorado Springs reliever Matt Daley came on in the seventh and tossed two perfect innings, and Joel Peralta held on in the ninth, despite walking two batters.

Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead on a Ruiz RBI single in the first inning, but the Sky Sox countered on Paul Phillips' sacrifice fly in the second.

The teams wrap up the four-game series at 12:05 p.m. today.
