51s fall behind early, lose at New Orleans
The 51s lost for only the third time in their last 16 games, falling to the host New Orleans Zephyrs 7-3 on Sunday in a Pacific Coast League game.
Adeiny Hechavarria was 3-for-3 with a walk, but the 51s (19-18) were held to six hits, while New Orleans had 15. Las Vegas starter Aaron Laffey (1-5, 5.80 ERA) allowed three runs on seven hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings.
New Orleans (20-17) got out front in the first inning with an RBI single by Chris Coghlan and Matt Dominguez's bases-loaded walk, and the Zephyrs led the rest of the way.
Las Vegas scored in the fourth when Travis Snider's sacrifice fly brought home Hechavarria, who doubled. Trailing 4-1 entering the eighth, the 51s got a Yan Gomes home run and an Anthony Gose RBI single to draw within 4-3.
But the Zephyrs scored three in the bottom of the inning, including a leadoff homer from Luke Montz.
New Orleans' Brad Hand (3-2, 3.30) gave up a run on two hits and three walks in six innings, while striking out eight.
