51s hold on for victory over Salt Lake

Four 51s pitchers held the Salt Lake Bees to four hits, helping Las Vegas to a 6-4 victory Wednesday in a Pacific Coast League game in Salt Lake City.

Winning pitcher Luis Perez (1-0) gave up three runs on three hits and six walks in five innings, striking out two.

The 51s (29-38) took a 5-3 lead with a three-run fourth inning highlighted by Jorge Padilla’s run-scoring double and Brad Emaus’ RBI triple. They tacked on a run in the eighth on Jarrett Hoffpauir’s RBI single.

Las Vegas’ Merkin Valdez pitched two perfect innings before loading the bases in the eighth on two walks and a single. He induced a double-play grounder, but the Bees scored a run on the play.

Steven Register relieved and forced another ground ball to end the threat. Jeremy Accardo pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save.

Hoffpauir went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Emaus scored three runs, and Chris Lubanski hit a solo homer for the 51s.

Salt Lake’s Fernando Rodriguez (1-2) gave up five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings.
