51s’ offense again shut down in loss to River Cats
One night after getting shut out, the 51s' offense remained sluggish, scratching out just four hits in a 6-2 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Tuesday in a Pacific Coast League game at West Sacramento, Calif.
Brian Bocock and Ricardo Nanita had RBI doubles in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, for Las Vegas (73-57), but that was all the damage the 51s could do against Brad Peacock and a trio of relievers.
Peacock allowed only those two hits, along with three walks in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four. Rich Thompson, Jeremy Accardo and Merkin Valdez threw 3 2/3 shutout innings for the River Cats.
Las Vegas starter Jesse Chavez wasn't as fortunate, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts.
Luke Hughes and Kenen Bailli had the only other hits for the 51s, who won the first two games of the four-game series to pull within 3½ games of the first-place River Cats, but ended the series right where they started - 5½ games back.
Brandon Hicks was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and a walk to lead Sacramento (79-52), and Shane Peterson was 2-for-2 with a double, three walks and two runs.
