51s put on show in finale

In true Las Vegas style, the 51s put on a show in their final home game of the season.

Las Vegas rallied to tie the game or take the lead four times against Tacoma, with Luis Maza lining a walk-off RBI single off the right-field wall with two outs in the 10th inning Thursday to give the 51s a thrilling 10-9 triumph at Cashman Field.

The victory evened the 51s' home mark at 36-36 and marked the second time in 53 chances this season that Las Vegas won when trailing after the eighth inning.

"It was an important win for me," first-year 51s manager Lorenzo Bundy said. "We kept coming back, and we finally got the big hit from Maza.

"It just feels good to get a big win before a nice crowd that stayed with us tonight."

An announced crowd of 9,055 attended the 51s' final home game of the season, pushing their season attendance to 371,676, their highest mark since 1993 and the third-highest total in the franchise's 25-year history. Las Vegas averaged 5,162 fans per game in 72 home dates this year.

Andy LaRoche singled with one out in the 10th inning, and Chad Moeller singled with two outs to put runners at first and second for Maza, whose lone hit of the night was a big one.

The 51s scored three runs in the ninth to tie it at 9. LaRoche drew a leadoff walk, and Marshall McDougall followed with a two-run homer.

Wilson Valdez lined a two-out single to right field, and Chin-Lung Hu followed with a single to center to put runners at first and third for Tony Abreu. He sliced an opposite-field, game-tying RBI double to left off Jose De La Cruz.

John Lindsey lined the first pitch he saw back up the box for an apparent game winner, but the ball glanced off De La Cruz's shin and caromed to shortstop Nick Green for the third out of the inning.

McDougall finished 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBIs. His three-run, opposite-field shot to right in the sixth inning gave Las Vegas a 6-5 edge.

Ronald Prettyman, who had four RBIs, drilled a two-run double in the ninth for Tacoma.

The 51s (64-76) will travel to Salt Lake for a four-game series from today through Monday to wrap up their 25th Triple-A season in Las Vegas.

• NOTES -- Lindsey doubled and scored in the sixth inning to extend his season-high hitting streak to 18 games and was presented with the Mayor's Trophy, which is voted on by the fans, after the game. Lindsey is hitting .342 with 19 homers and 81 RBIs in 73 games with Las Vegas. ...

Delwyn Young was named the team's Most Valuable Player. The outfielder is batting .334 with 17 homers and 89 RBIs and leads the Pacific Coast League with a franchise-record 50 doubles, 72 extra-base hits and 103 runs scored in 117 games.
