51s rout Tacoma, 11-4

The 51s played for the big inning, scoring four times in both the fifth and seventh innings to rout Tacoma 11-4 at Cashman Field Thursday in a battle of division leaders.

Las Vegas (16-5) already had a 2-0 lead when it batted around in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead to 6-0. Daniel Munoz doubled home two runs and Eric Campbell and Wilmer Flores followed with RBI singles. After the Rainiers (10-8) touched starting pitcher Rafael Montero for three runs in the top of the sixth, the 51s answered with one in their half of the sixth on Zach Lutz’s home run to right-center field, his second of the game, then added four in the bottom of the seventh as Allan Dykstra and Matt den Dekker both doubled during the inning.

Montero pitched six innings and improved to 3-0. Andrew Carraway lasted just 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits in dropping to 1-1. The teams meet in the second of the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. today with a fireworks show scheduled following the game.
