51s shut down in loss to Beavers

The 51s allowed three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth, and their offense mustered only three hits in a 6-2 loss to the Portland Beavers on Sunday in the Pacific Coast League at Portland, Ore.

Mike Baxter had a two-run single in the third and Jody Gerut added an RBI single. In the fourth, Josh Barfield hit a solo homer, and Nick Green and Mike Baxter supplied RBI singles.

Though only three runs were earned, Las Vegas starter Scott Richmond exited after the fourth, having allowed seven hits and two walks, with two strikeouts.

Raul Chavez had Las Vegas' only other hit, an eighth-inning single. Baxter went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Portland.

Chris Young, making a rehab start for the San Diego Padres, pitched 3 1/3 hitless innings for the Beavers (58-85), and Josh Geer went the rest of the way in relief to get the win.

The 51s wrap up the season today with a 2:05 p.m. game against Portland.
