51s shut out Aces for sixth straight victory
The 51s scored five runs in the fourth inning, and four Las Vegas pitchers combined to limit the host Reno Aces to five hits in a 6-0 win Thursday night, the team’s sixth straight.
Wilmer Flores’ two-run double and Allan Dykstra’s two-run homer were the big blows in the fourth for the 51s, who sent 10 men to the plate in building a 5-0 lead against Reno starter Bo Schultz (1-2). That was more than enough support for starting pitcher Dana Eveland (1-0), who pitched five innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Flores, who was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, tripled home Eric Campbell in the seventh to give the 51s a 6-0 lead.
Las Vegas reliever Buddy Carlyle pitched two innings and got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh when Alfredo Marte hit into a double play. Joel Carreno pitched the eighth inning and Erik Goeddel the ninth.
The 51s, who have the Pacific Coast League’s best record at 12-3, will try for a four-game sweep at 6:30 p.m. today.
