51s shut out Iowa behind Bowman, Socolovich

Matthew Bowman and Miguel Socolovich combined on a four-hitter as the 51s blanked the Iowa Cubs 2-0 on Friday night to take three of four game in Des Moines.

Bowman (2-1) pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking two before giving way to Socolovich, who inherited a two-on, one-out situation in the eighth. He retired the next two batters, then set the Cubs down in order in the ninth to record his second save.

Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead in the second when Taylor Teagarden walked and scored on Cory Vaughn’s single. The 51s made it 2-0 in the sixth when Matt Reynolds doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Andrew Brown’s single.

The 51s continue their trip at 4:35 p.m. today in Omaha, the first game of a four-game series against the Storm Chasers.
