51s struggle on mound, at plate

Edwin Bellorin hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and three Colorado Springs pitchers limited the 51s to four singles as the Sky Sox beat Las Vegas 13-0 in a Pacific Coast League game Thursday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The loss, coming in the second game of a five-game series, snapped the 51s' three-game win streak.

Bellorin hit a two-run shot in the second inning and a solo blast in the third, both off Las Vegas starter Eric Cyr (2-2). Bellorin had a run-scoring single in the fourth.

Bellorin's first home run highlighted a four-run second, one of three four-run innings the Sky Sox posted. They also scored four times each in the fourth and seventh innings.

Colorado Springs battered Cyr and two other 51s pitchers for 16 hits.

Las Vegas could not solve Sky Sox starter Franklin Morales (9-4) or relievers Cedrick Bowers and Steven Register.

Morales surrendered four singles in six innings, Bowers pitched two hitless innings and Register one.

The three combined to walk five and strike out 11.

Wilkin Ruan, Luis Maza, Xavier Paul and Rene Rivera had the 51s' four hits.

In addition to Bellorin, Cory Sullivan and Mike McCoy also had three hits apiece for Colorado Springs.

The series, the final one on the road this season for Las Vegas, continues today with a 6:05 p.m. game.
