51s suffer shutout loss to Bees
April 17, 2008 - 9:00 pm
The 51s came up on the short end of a defensive standoff, losing to the Salt Lake Bees 1-0 in a Pacific Coast League game Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.
The 51s (6-7) outhit the Bees 5-3 but couldn't score. Salt Lake's Sean Rodriguez homered off reliever Greg Jones with one out in the seventh inning.
That spoiled a solid effort from Las Vegas starter Jon Meloan, who allowed one hit and four walks in six innings, with four strikeouts.
Salt Lake's Shane Loux was just as impressive, allowing four hits and two walks in seven innings, with six strikeouts. Rodriguez had two hits for the Bees (12-1).
In the third inning, Luis Maza hit a two-out double, followed by a Terry Tiffee walk, but John-Ford Griffin's flyout halted the 51s' scoring threat.
Las Vegas batters were sent down in order in four innings, and no baserunners got past second.
Maza finished 2-for-4.
Las Vegas and Salt Lake continue their series with 5:35 p.m. starts today and Friday before the 51s return home to host Sacramento at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
