51s’ three-run ninth just enough to edge Grizzlies

The 51s scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, then held off a rally by host Fresno to claim a 4-3 Pacific Coast League victory over the Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

With the game tied at 1 in the top of the ninth, Jonathan Diaz's single scored Danny Perales, and an error allowed Mark Sobolewski to take third and Diaz to take second. Joel Galarraga followed with a two-run single, scoring Sobolewski and Diaz to put Las Vegas (60-43) up 4-1.

Reliever Jerry Gil took the mound in the bottom of the ninth for the 51s, and after giving up a leadoff single to Brock Bond, Gil induced a Nick Noonan double-play grounder.

But Conor Gillaspie singled, and Brett Pill belted a two-run homer to make it 4-3 before Gil struck out Todd Linden to end the game.

Scott Richmond had a solid start for Las Vegas, allowing one run on seven hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings, with five strikeouts.
