51s waste 11 hits, strand 13 runners in loss to Grizzlies

The 51s left 13 runners on base, squandering 11 hits, in a 5-2 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday in a Pacific Coast League game at Fresno, Calif.

Staked to a 5-1 lead after two innings, right-hander Eric Hacker (10-5) pitched around 11 hits, 10 of which were singles, in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two.

Hacker gave up two runs, including Brett Wallace's 15th homer, a leadoff shot in the fifth inning that pulled Las Vegas within 5-2.

After Hacker struck out J.P. Arencibia and Adam Calderone in the fifth, the 51s (44-49) loaded the bases on singles by Aaron Mathews, Brad Emaus and Manny Mayorson. But Callix Crabbe grounded to shortstop to end the threat.

Las Vegas loaded the bases again with one out in the sixth, but left-hander Joe Paterson came on for the final two outs and combined with fellow relievers Henry Sosa and Geno Espineli to no-hit the 51s the rest of the way.

Arencibia went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 20 games. Right-hander Robert Ray (3-4) took the loss.
