51s win suspended game, then fall to Iowa
Luis Maza's two-run double in the sixth inning helped lift the 51s to a 5-4 victory over the Iowa Cubs in Wednesday's completion of Tuesday's suspended Pacific Coast League game in Des Moines, Iowa.
The teams resumed play in the bottom of the third inning Wednesday with Las Vegas leading, 3-1.
In Wednesday's regularly scheduled game, Cory Bailey pitched Iowa to a 5-0 victory.
Matt Craig, Carlos Rojas and Jake Fox had RBI singles in the first game for the Cubs (65-54).
Maza, Chin-Lung Hu, John Lindsey and Choo Freeman had two hits apiece in the opener for the 51s (55-63). Maza's decisive hit came with two outs after Wilkin Ruan and Wilson Valdez had singled.
Dwayne Pollok (1-1) was credited with the first-game win despite giving up two runs on six hits in three innings of relief. Eric Hull earned his 10th save of the season with two innings of one-hit relief.
Randy Wells (5-6) lost after permitting two runs on five hits and a walk in three innings.
In the second game, Bailey (4-2) blanked Las Vegas on six hits over five innings in the seven-inning game.
Craig paced the Cubs' offense with a solo home run, his first of the season, and a sacrifice fly.
Miguel Pinango (7-7) lost after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks in four innings.
The 51s are off today, then open a four-game series with the Sacramento River Cats on Friday at Cashman Field.
