Aces capitalize on walks, rout 51s
July 29, 2010 - 11:00 pm
On the day the Toronto Blue Jays organization traded slugging 51s first baseman Brett Wallace to the Houston Astros, the 51s' bats were relatively silent in an 11-3 loss Thursday to Reno in a Pacific Coast League game at Aces Ballpark.
The Aces scored five times on only two singles in the second, when they sent 10 hitters to the plate against 51s starter Lance Broadway, who issued four walks in the inning.
Jeff Bailey and Pedro Ciriaco drove in two runs apiece to give the Aces (46-60) the early lead.
The 51s answered with a run in the fourth inning on an Aaron Matthews single that scored Jason Lane.
The Aces scored twice in the fifth, once in the six and three on Bailey's three-run homer in the eighth as the 51s (50-56) allowed double-digit runs for the 24th time this season.
Bailey has reached base safely in 30 straight home games.
The 51s managed nine hits, including four doubles, but left seven men on base.
Las Vegas starter Broadway (2-9) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits while walking five and striking out four.
Joshua Collmenter (3-2) got the win for Reno.
The victory gives the Aces a 7-3 series lead over the 51s this season with six games remaining between them.
