af2 championship game bound for Orleans Arena

Arena football will return to Las Vegas this summer when the af2 league plays its championship game Aug. 22 at the Orleans Arena.

Tickets for the 10th ArenaCup will go on sale July 10 at the Orleans box office. They are priced from $17.50 to $60.

The 25-team af2 stretches coast to coast from Albany, N.Y. to Spokane, Wash. It began as an offshoot of the Arena Football League, which ceased operations this year because of financial problems.

"We want this to become an annual event as well as a precursor to having a team here (in Las Vegas)," af2 president Jerry Kurz said Wednesday at the Orleans. "Coming here fits our western region perfectly."

The Orleans served as the home arena for the AFL's Las Vegas Gladiators. Las Vegas also hosted the AFL's ArenaBowl in 2005 and 2006.
