51s show power in first victory of PCL season

Brandon Allen, Darrell Ceciliani and Alex Castellanos homered to back Darin Gorski’s strong pitching and lift the 51s to a 7-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday at Fresno, Calif.

Allen hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Ceciliani and Castellanos connected on solo shots in the third and fifth, respectively, helping Las Vegas (1-2) to a 9-3 edge in hits. Allen, Castellanos and Danny Muno each had two hits, with Castellanos notching a double and scoring twice.

Gorski (1-0) worked around five walks to hold Fresno (2-1) to two runs, one earned, and two hits in five innings. He struck out five. Relievers Scott Rice, Zach Thornton and John Church combined to blank the Grizzlies on one hit and one walk in four innings.

Fresno starter Alex White (0-1) was charged with four runs on six hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Preston Tucker and L.J. Hoes each had a double during Fresno’s two-run fourth inning.

Travis Taijeron had an RBI single in the fourth, his first hit with the 51s. They also scored in the eighth on a groundout by Muno.
