Back-to-back homers fuel 51s’ victory

Brett Lawrie and Eric Thames hit back-to-back solo homers in the first inning, sparking the 51s to a 6-3 victory over the Sacramento RiverCats in the Pacific Coast League on Monday at West Sacramento, Calif.

Las Vegas (3-2) touched RiverCats starter Travis Banwart (0-1) for four runs in 4 1/3 innings. Adam Loewen's RBI groundout in the fourth broke a 3-3 tie.

The 51s added single runs in the seventh and ninth. Ryan Shealy got both RBIs, first on a bases-loaded groundout and then a bases-loaded walk.

Lawrie, Thames and Manny Mayorson each had two of Las Vegas' 10 hits. Winner Sean Henn pitched three shutout innings in relief of Chad Cordero.

The four-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. today.
