Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, November 14

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

1 Salsita - Has finished third in 3 starts over Del Mar synthetics; will save ground and save her best running for late.

7 New Nature - Ron Ellis waves the white flag as he drops her lower than the price he claimed at; tries blinkers on as a last resort.

Long Shot - 4 Bunuska

Race 2 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $65,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Sweet Swap - While most saw Bobby’s Kitten late charge, this one finished only a length behind in BC Turf Sprint; must get some pace.

4 Distinctiv Passion - Could be the speed of the speed in here; second start off nearly a year layoff.

Long Shot - 1 Bahamian Squall

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

4 Counting Queens - Caveat emptor, Leandro Mora has an uncoupled entry in here; this one shows OK works for debut.

2 Aguacita - Was thrown to the wolves in last stakes try; she is a maiden and returns to face her friends tonight.

Long Shot - 9 Discreet Flirt

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Valentine Boy - Tiny edge in the hardest race on the card; looks like a lot of early speed types, so I’ll try a closer.

11 Zip Cat - Will try to be the speed of the speed; has a parking lot post but can clock the early speed or just go on with it.

Long Shot - 10 Broadway Nika

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

10 Royal Journey - Looked to me that he just got a test drive in debut; expect better from these top notch connections.

4 Air Nashoba - Has the pedigree to be anykind; related to Nashoba’s Key and Nashoba’s Gold, but talented turf runners.

Long Shot - 6 Flexible

Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Silver Torch - Did everything but win last time in a strong second; switches back to synthetics where he has had some success.

2 Tuff Storm - Broke his MSW over Del Mar synthetics so we know he likes the stuff; no early speed, so he’ll be coming from the clouds.

Long Shot - 6 Anxious Times

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Kukaluka - For forgiving handicappers only; I like playing horses with a last line like this, most horseplayers draw a line thru her.

2 Practising - Major chance due to big time class relief; Alex Solis has won two races at the meet and is landing on some live mounts.

Long Shot - 9 Gabby’s Purim

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds

5 Speedy Tornado - Did everything but win last time in a strong try; if he improves one step he’ll be double tough.

12 Dance Dee a Door O - Good horses usually have good names, and the reverse can be true; this name is a play on the trainer’s name.

Long Shot - 4 Justonemorething

Best Bet - 7 Silver Torch (race 6)

Del Mar Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$17.80; Long Shots, 7/3/$36.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Del Mar Totals - 69/17/$103.40; Long Shots, 33/4/$44.20; Best Bets, 4/1/$5.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #3 Come Around (5/2) in race 7 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Premium ran third at Aqueduct paying $3.30 to show. Stats - 175/105/$953.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
