Horse racing: Today at Los Alamitos, Sept. 25

Race 1 – 1 mile, $35,000 Long Beach, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Kristinite – Like that after such a convincing win at Del Mar, Bill Spawr runs her protected tonight; been given lots of time too so she figures to be razor sharp.
1 Flyin for a Livin – Decisive win in first start off the claim by Bob Hess; the rail is good right now so she'll save all the ground without running in quicksand.
Long Shot – 6 Vegas Bound

Race 2 – 5 ½ furlongs, $30,000 Buena Park, 3-year-olds and up
8 Not Enough Eddie – You read it right, he ran for a $55K price tag last time out; what made him eligible for this is Doug O'Neill snuck him in for $8K three races ago.
1 Maximinus – Claimed by Bob Hess and saved for this protected spot at the end of the Los Alamitos meet; apprentice Ty Kennedy has looked good in his very few chances.
Long Shot – 7 Ultimate Luck

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, $45,000 Seal Beach, 3-year-olds and up
1 Basmati – Got the money in last first race off the claim for trainer Richard Baltas; anything they can win from now on is gravy, this is another protected spot.
3 Sacred Ovation – Did everything but win last time when nosed by Basmati; his natural weapon is early speed so we'll see if he can carry it one more yard further.
Long Shot – 4 Jonny's Choice

Race 4 – 5 ½ furlongs, $30,000 Westminster, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Sea Royalty – Trainer John Martin is one of the top NoCal conditioners; he ships this filly down off a win and in this protected race, chance to win and keep her too.
1 Rock N Bunny – Claimed by trainer A. C. Avila who had his finger in his condition book for this; this is a very sharp barn so keep an eye on the tote board for clues.
Long Shot – 5 Jetbird

Race 5 – 1 mile, $35,000 Rossmoor, 3-year-olds and up
3 Crusher – Beaten favorite in the Humboldt County Handicap ships south for this protected spot; has back class numbers to run a winning race in this even group.
2 Ten Carat Rock – Tepid chalk in a very difficult heat; like when races like this are in race 5 because the placement puts it into the Pick 5 and in the Pick 6 too.
Long Shot – 4 Doyouknowsomething

Race 6 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Avo – There are a lot of horses in this field that don't run very fast; this filly ran a strong race at Los Alamitos during the summer meet, repeat race will win this.
5 Blue Cilantro – Chalk is taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; was eased in last, but her two races before that are fast enough to win today.
Long Shot – 10 Absolute Package

Race 7 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Fantasy of Luck – Was a big favorite in her career debut for Bob Baffert at Del Mar; suspect she faced a tougher group than today, expect a much improved performance.
9 Azure Dream – FTS from trainer Doug O'Neill barn; it has been some summer for O'Neill and his main owner J. Paul Reddam, busting out winners from everywhere.
Long Shot – 2 Plane Lucky

Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Summers Dignity – Nearly overcame a stumbled start to win last time out; like the cutback in distance and with a normal start will have less to do in the stretch run.
1 Desert Madam – This is a fairly pedestrian group, she has good early speed so I expect Mario Gutierrez to read the Form for strategy; he should send baby send.
Long Shot – 5 Anita Marie

Race 9 - 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $6,250, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Oleanderpolarbear – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this really low level; she has a lot of early speed so Edwin Maldonado should just send hard and hang on.
9 Lady Comic – This is the last race of the Los Alamitos meet; we'll see you on Saturday at Santa Anita with an outstanding card of Breeders' Cup prep races.
Long Shot – 3 Aguacita

Best Bet - 5 Kristinite (race 1)
Los Alamitos Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$34.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Los Alamitos Totals - 146/38/$260.00; Long Shots, 73/15/$164.20; Best Bets, 9/5/$20.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #5 Deep Consideration (8/1) in race 10 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Blarp ran second at Churchill Downs paying $3.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Stats - 143/95/$714.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
