Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Jan 16

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds

2 Magna Warrior - Gutsy win last time in first start for the Keith Desormeaux barn; key for me is he was 7-lengths clear of third.

5 Echo Zulu - Sharp rebound win in last albeit over a 5-horse field; his race two back at Del Mar is also fast enough to beat these.

Long Shot - 6 Northern Contract

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

5 Fascinating - Ended her nibbling ways last out at Los Alamitos; facing winners for the first time, will be a short price tonight.

1 Gracie Ragazza - Broke her maiden at Santa Anita, so that’s a plus; has won 3-of-5 starts on dirt, will save all the ground in here.

Long Shot - 4 Tappingintherain

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

6 Anniversary Kitty - Been away since April; her races over turf are her best efforts, suspect will be flying late, hopefully not too late.

1 Radiant Journey - Sharp speed win to graduate in last over Los Alamitos dirt; tries turf for the first time.

Long Shot - 7 Moving Desert

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

1 Beth’s Bling - Typical green debut, slow early, fast late; exits a key race too so there is much to like with her.

4 Sound City - Showed high cheese in debut at Los Alamitos; Rafael Bejarano rides the live ones from the Richard Baltas barn.

Long Shot - 5 Blooming Hannah

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

2 Press Baron - What are the odds of a Richard Baltas double; pretty good if your jockey is also Rafael Bejarano on both horses.

6 Horizontalyspeakin - Has high early speed which will be flattered by the turf rail out 24 feet; will play catch me if you can tonight.

Long Shot - 1 Tigah

Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 Crucero - Been away since February, but takes a huge class drop to face much easier; only question is how tight he is off the layoff.

3 Arlington House - Stretching out from sprint to route; expect Rafael Bejarano to find a spot and save some horse for the end.

Long Shot - 6 Kibou

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

6 Bobbi Grace - Gets class relief from two stakes for this; also is cutting back in distance so expect a much stronger finish.

5 Sea Mona - Another getting major class relief for this first level condition; first try down the hillside turf course.

Long Shot - 2 Into Oblivion

Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

1 Cyrus Alexander - Flew home late in last to just miss; has more speed than that and draws the rail post at one mile.

7 Dream Police - Returns tonight as a first time gelding; another live horse for the Rafael Bejarano-Richard Baltas team.

Long Shot - 10 Selection

Best Bet - 1 Cyrus Alexander (race 8)

Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$40.00; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.80

Santa Anita Totals - 212/56/$353.80; Long Shots, 106/13/$108.20; Best Bets, 13/6/$27.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #6 Tarty to the Party (8/1) in race 9 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Felix the Lions was scratched at Gulfstream Park. Stats - 8/7/$31.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
