Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 15

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

1 Runbrorun - Did everything but win last time out; John Brocklebank takes the blinkers off to try and control her early speed.

7 Nusret - When I see Rafael Bejarano ride a baby drag race, I take notice; this one for Jeff Bonde has a lot of bullet workouts.

Long Shot - 2 Tumbleweedprincess

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Blackford - Ron Ellis is having a slow start to this new meet; he drops this down into a now or never kind of spot.

3 American Act - Been knocking on the door since claimed by Michael Pender three races ago; back out around 2-turns tonight.

Long Shot - 4 Fast Mast

Race 3 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

3 Run Like the Boss - Peter Miller broke out of a funk yesterday in a big way; he’ll keep the mojo going with this fast work filly.

1 Suavemente - Jeff Bonde has proven he can get babies ready for these abbreviated sprint; break sharp and improve your position.

Long Shot - 8 Star Express

Race 4 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Lookin for Money - There is a chance of more rain for Friday; the turf races on Thursday came off, best horses still won.

6 Backstreet Lisa - Has a fairly equal resume dirt or turf; if it comes up sloppy I guess we’ll be on our own.

Long Shot - 3 Kiss At Midnight

Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Dress Code - The top two horses were both just claimed from Peter Miller; this one won by daylight and appears ready for a class rise.

6 The Mad Hungarian - Ran second last time and is dropped in class off the claim by Jaime Gomez; like that Tyler Baze remains loyal.

Long Shot - 1 Candy for Debbie

Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Persuasive Paul - Once again the weather may be wet thus the grass races may come off; this one has won 3-of-7 dirt starts, none wet.

4 Fast Track - Molly Pearson makes her few visits to SoCal very profitable; she reads the condition book and steals purse money.

Long Shot - 2 All Squared Away

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Two Is to Many - Showed high cheese early before falling apart late; key for me is the cut back in distance and subtle class drop.

8 Coolington - Won for $14K two races ago so this class drop can only help; Peter Miller barn may be heating up again.

Long Shot - 1 Limited Response

Race 8 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Housemaker - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Doug O’Neill also taking the blinkers off.

1 Pammy Whammy - I typically like the rail post at one mile dirt or turf; another turf race in jeopardy depending on the weather.

Long Shot - 5 Barbs Angel

Best Bet - 1 Runbrorun (race 1)

Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$30.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$19.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60

Santa Anita Meet Totals - 198/50/$302.40; Long Shots, 97/15/$198.00; Best Bets, 12/6/$24.60

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #5 Include Betty (5/1) in race 11 at Pimlico. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, J J Garber won at Churchill Downs paying $15.20 to win, $7.20 to place and $4.20 to show. Stats - 68/44/$323.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
