Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 23
May 22, 2014 - 10:57 pm
Post Time 3 p.m.
Race 1 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
8 Story to Tell - The ones with experience don’t look like much; prefer going with the multiple FTS in the field.
5 Two Six Wins - With all of the FTS, you’ll have an edge over me in seeing the tote board action; hot action can point to clocker info.
Long Shot - 7 Gotta Get Paid
Race 2 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $19,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Ice Cream Truck - Unless something odd happens, it looks like a fairly chalky card; claimed by A. C. Avila who puts blinkers on.
7 Chattering Class - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much to handle these slowpokes.
Long Shot - 5 Cache Wanted
Race 3 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Elegant - More potential chalk in today’s Pick 5; can save every inch of ground over a firm turf course.
3 Heat Du Jour - Claimed by Richard Baltas who is having a solid year so far; Kent Desormeaux is back and he looks like a hungry rider.
Long Shot - 5 Putahexonher
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Miss American Pie - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this bottom rung; draw a line thru her turf try and her resume looks fine.
3 Halo La - Claimed by Quinn Howey up at Golden Gate Fields; the fact he bothers to ship down here show make one look twice.
Long Shot - 5 Sizzling Lassie
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Boller Bomb - Was overmatched last time in the Irish O’Brien; gets class relief today, running with her friends.
5 Could Be Trouble - Tepid chalk in a really wide open affair; the fifth race is the most important on an 8 race card.
Long Shot - 4 Intoxicating Move
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Hear the Ghost - Most of the Jerry Hollendorfer horses have been live this meet; this one is productive, but a step below in class.
5 Tiz Dynamic - Ran poorly in the Tokyo City, but his race two back was a sharp win; chance to rebound facing his friends today.
Long Shot - 2 Airfoil
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Baruta - Flew home in last to just miss; has lost two close verdicts, but may have found a nice spot today for a photo.
3 Heat Trap - Been away 8 months, but showed some skill down the hill; figures to sit mid-pack and make one run.
Long Shot - 10 Starry Skies
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Warrens Lil Margie - The turf experiment failed in last, first off the claim by Jeff Mullins; her better races were on Arcadia dirt.
5 Room For Me - Favorite in a wide open finale; the field is wanting for talent and consistency, but someone has to win.
Long Shot - 4 Tiz Zoe Cee
Best Bet - 1 Hear the Ghost (race 6)
Santa Anita Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/7/$57.00; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60
Santa Anita Park Totals - 262/70/$438.20; Long Shots, 127/12/$119.80; Best Bets, 13/4/$12.80
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #7 Golden Rifle (5/2) in race 7 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Front won at Aqueduct paying $8.30 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.70 to show. Stats - 80/46/$436.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
