Big innings spark 51s’ 9-5 victory

The 51s put up three three-run innings and snapped a five-game losing streak Monday with a 9-5 victory over the Iowa Cubs in a Pacific Coast League game at Des Moines, Iowa.

Las Vegas (54-62) started quickly with three runs in the first, including a two-run homer by Larry Barnes.

Iowa (64-53) came back with two runs in the fourth and a run apiece in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-3 lead before the 51s regained control.

Ben Howard replaced Iowa starter Juan Mateo in the seventh and gave up the 51s' next three runs. Wilson Valdez and Marshall McDougall had RBI singles, and Chin-Lung Hu had an RBI double.

The 51s scored three more runs in the ninth, one on John Lindsey's solo homer.
