Boise State coasts, eyes Vegas bowl

BOISE, Idaho -- Kellen Moore threw three touchdown passes in the final home game of his brilliant career, and Doug Martin ran for two scores as No. 9 Boise State rolled over New Mexico 45-0 on Saturday.

Moore, the winningest starting quarterback in college football history, was nearly flawless, and the Broncos' defense had no problem bottling up the punchless Lobos.

The win gave Boise State (11-1, 6-1 Mountain West Conference) its second straight season with one loss. The Broncos appear bound for a second straight trip to the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl, in which they dismantled No. 20 Utah last year, 26-3.

Boise State's loss came against conference champion Texas Christian on Nov. 12

Moore was 28 of 33 for 313 yards before heading for the sideline midway through the third quarter. Martin rushed for 110 yards on 19 carries, and his 40-yard run in the third quarter gave the Broncos a 38-0 lead.

New Mexico (1-11, 1-6) managed only 197 total yards, crossing midfield twice.

■ Wyoming 22, Colorado State 19 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., Brett Smith threw for two touchdowns to lead the Cowboys past the mistake-prone Rams.

Josh Doctson caught three passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns for Wyoming (8-4, 5-2 MWC) in the 102nd meeting of the Border War. The bowl-eligible Cowboys trail in the series, 54-43-5.

The job security of Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild rests in the hands of newly named athletic director Jack Graham. Fairchild has coached the Rams (3-9, 1-6) to three straight 3-9 finishes.

Graham said he had made no decision about Fairchild, with whom he plans to meet today. The Rams ended the season on an eight-game losing streak.

■ San Diego State 35, Fresno State 28 -- At San Diego, Ronnie Hillman rushed for 178 yards and four touchdowns, including the decisive score on a 2-yard run with 1:09 left, to lift the Aztecs over the Bulldogs in a nonconference game.

Hillman scored touchdowns on runs of 20, 2 and 2 yards before setting up his winning score with an 18-yard run.

San Diego State (8-4), which overcame a 21-point deficit, is likely to receive a second consecutive bowl bid for the first time in 43 seasons as a Division I program.

Fresno State (4-9) built a 21-0 lead halfway through the second quarter after Isaiah Green scored on a 59-yard return of a blocked field goal, and Derek Carr's two touchdown passes.
