Boulder City rusher sparks key TD drive

Boulder City running back Jack LaMarca had a confident proposition for his coach Friday night, with the Eagles trailing River Valley (Ariz.) and facing fourth-and-6 from River Valley's 25-yard line in the fourth quarter.

"He walked over to me on the sideline and said, 'Coach, I'll get you 6 yards,' " Alex Kazel said.

LaMarca wound up gaining much more. The senior burst through a huge hole on the right side of the line for a 25-yard touchdown with 7:18 remaining, giving Boulder City its first lead in a 15-5 victory.

LaMarca's run capped an 80-yard, eight-play drive spanning 3:13. LaMarca also had runs of 27 and 20 yards on the possession and completed the 2-point conversion pass to Sean Bird to give Boulder City an 8-5 lead.

LaMarca added a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:14 to play, one play after a 33-yard run by Matt Combs, and the conversion kick put Boulder City (2-1) up 15-5.

LaMarca gained 97 yards on 13 carries to help the Eagles overcome a litany of miscues in the first three quarters.

River Valley (1-2) scored a safety when Combs was tackled in the end zone after a bad snap early in the second quarter. Another bad snap on an Eagles punt led to a 14-yard loss on fourth down, setting up the Dust Devils at Boulder City's 34 with 3:01 left in the first half.

River Valley went to halftime ahead 5-0 after Phillip Maxwell kicked a 22-yard field goal as time expired.

Boulder City also muffed a punt and lost a fumble.
