Boulder City wins 3A league title

Boulder City wrestlers took first place in seven of the 14 weight classes Saturday as the Eagles captured the Class 3A Southern League tournament in Mesquite.

Boulder City had a team score of 1841/2 points. Moapa Valley was second at 1641/2, followed by host Virgin Valley with 1191/2.

Clinton Garvin (103 pounds), Allen Haines (135), Tim McKeever (140), Steven Kaposta (160), Jake Thormodsgaard (171), Frankie Badgley (189) and Kyle Erickson (285) each won his weight class for Boulder City.

Moapa Valley wrestlers took first in five weight classes -- Nathaniel Sprague (112), Cyle Durham (119), Shae Bryant (125), Parker Chappell (152) and Justin Ibarra (215).

Virgin Valley got titles from Jade Jensen at 130 and McKay Magoon at 145.

The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state meet, which begins Friday at Cox Pavilion.

• 2A MEET -- White Pine claimed five weight class championships and won the team title at the Class 2A Southern Region meet in Alamo.

The Bobcats had a team score of 204 points. Laughlin was second with 158, followed by Spring Mountain with 126.

Daylin Ruggiero (103), Skylar Hall (112), Dallas Lewis (140), Rusty Lewis (160) and Garrett Colman (285) each finished first in his weight class for White Pine.

Laughlin took home three titles -- Corey Cook (145), Christian Kruse (171) and John Little (215).

Spring Mountain's Francisco Hernandez (119) and Round Mountain's Jordan Cutler (125) also won titles.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state meet, which begins Friday at Cox Pavilion.
