Local boxers Haney, Cortes advance to finals of Junior Olympic nationals

Two local boxers, Devin Haney of Las Vegas and Andres Cortes of Henderson, advanced to today’s finals of the Junior Olympic National Championships in Mobile, Ala.

Haney, a bantamweight, defeated Michael Dutchover of Midland, Texas, 2-1 in Friday’s semifinals and will face Ruben Villa of Salinas, Calif., in the finals.

Cortes won his lightweight semifinal bout, defeating Cole Dante of Honolulu, 3-0. Cortes will meet Keoni Adric Jr. of Haleima, Hawaii, in today’s gold-medal bout.
