Capparelli’s double gives Lions victory
Nick Capparelli's RBI double in the eighth inning Tuesday gave Sierra Vista a 4-3 victory over North Eugene (Ore.).
Andrew Garcia opened the eighth by reaching base on an error. After a sacrifice by Matt Holman, Capparelli delivered the game-winning hit.
North Eugene scored two runs in the first, then added another one in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lions came back with three runs in the home half of the fifth.
• Green Valley 7, Centennial 6 -- At Centennial, the Gators' Caleb Kennedy scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Blair and Dominic McGovern each went 3-for-3 for Green Valley. Matt Harrison was 2-for-4 with a home run for the Gators.
Centennial's Jimmy Nelson was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.
• Clark 6, Chaparral 5 -- At Chaparral, Manny Estrada went 2-for-3 with a home run and three stolen bases as the Chargers held off a late rally to beat the Cowboys.
Estrada also pitched a complete game to get the win.
Isaiah Washington was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple for Chaparral, which trailed 6-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
• Durango 8, Eldorado 7 -- At Durango, Danny Reynolds hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and help the Trailblazers beat the Sundevils.
Durango scored four in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. Reynolds was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs.
Jared Hoven was 2-for-2 for Eldorado.
• Cimarron-Memorial 9, Calvary Chapel 6 -- At Cimarron, Aaron Hernandez was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead the Spartans back from a 5-0 deficit in a win over the Lions.
Kris Kaplan was 3-for-4 with a solo home run for Cimarron.
• Spring Valley 15, Canyon Springs 4 -- At Spring Valley, Cody Collins went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Grizzlies past the Pioneers.
Brady Smith was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Canyon Springs.
• Foothill 10, Shadow Ridge 7 -- At Foothill, Jordan Stewart went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help the Falcons hold off the Mustangs.
Jordan Mathis was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Foothill, and Aaron Whittaker homered for the Falcons.
Dustin Hobbs went 2-for-4 with a double for Shadow Ridge.
• Bonanza 15, Valley 3 -- At Valley, Nick Bryant and Tomo Delp each went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Bengals past the Vikings.
Kris Bryant had two triples and four RBIs, and Chasen Shreve was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Bonanza.
• Desert Pines 15, Western 5 -- At Desert Pines, Dan Huntsman pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts, as the Jaguars rolled over the Warriors.
Juan Paz hit a three-run homer for Desert Pines. Huntsman also had a homer, a double and five RBIs.
Keenan Shumpert was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Western.
• Moapa Valley 6, Tech 1 -- At Overton, Matt Vallet had a double and an RBI to lead the Pirates past the Roadrunners.
Dallin Seely and Bobby Vallet combined to shut out Tech over the first six innings.
• Pahranagat Valley 11, Mountain View 7 -- At Alamo, the Panthers scored four runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to down the Saints.
Ryan Jarzombeck had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Mountain View.
GORMAN TOURNEY BEGINS TODAY The Bishop Gorman Easter Classic baseball tournament begins today at three area sites. The 22-team tournament begins with games at 8 a.m. at Hadland Park, Peccole Park and Rivera Park.The tournament continues through Saturday, with the championship game scheduled for 11 a.m. at Hadland.
