Colorado Springs sweeps doubleheader from 51s
Star pitching prospect Kyle Drabek continued to struggle as the 51s were swept in a Pacific Coast League doubleheader, 5-3 and 10-4, by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Tuesday night in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Drabek (1-2) took the loss in the opener as Colorado Springs (44-53) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to pull out the win with a three-run sixth inning.
Las Vegas took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning thanks to center fielder Darin Mastroianni's RBI single, which drove in Ricardo Nanita, who had doubled.
But Colorado Springs went ahead an inning later behind a two-run homer by former 51s first baseman Mike Jacobs.
The Sky Sox then added an insurance run when catcher Jordan Pacheco tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Matt Macri.
Drabek yielded five earned runs on five hits and five walks in six innings while striking out three.
Reliever Blake Johnson (4-1) picked up the win for the Sky Sox.
Colorado Springs, behind home runs by shortstop Alfredo Amezaga, right fielder Joe Mather and center fielder Eric Young, cruised to victory in the second game.
The Sky Sox, who chased starter 51s Mike MacDonald (5-5) after three innings, jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Las Vegas managed a pair of runs in each of the final two innings.
It was a long night at the plate for 51s hitting star Brett Lawrie, who went 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in the doubleheader.
