Coronado, Silverado crowned

The Coronado boys and the Silverado girls won state bowling championships Thursday at The Orleans.

The Cougars defeated Spring Valley 7-2 for their first state title since 2005. The Skyhawks edged Palo Verde 5-4 to win their first crown.

Zac Hochman led Coronado with a 636 series, bowling games of 193, 182 and 261. He rolled strikes in the first nine frames of the third game.

"I knew each pin was going to make the difference, so I concentrated on doing the best I can," Hochman said. "I simply choked in the 10th, but winning the title is an incredible accomplishment."

Silverado was paced by Krystal Nadeau, who rolled games of 214, 213 and 216 for a 643 series. The Skyhawks trailed by five pins after the second game.

"Coming back like we did shows the character of this group of girls," Silverado coach Mark Parantala said.
