AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Jimmer Fredette scored 20 points and Jonathan Tavernari 17 as Brigham Young beat Air Force 71-50 on Tuesday, sending the Falcons to their ninth straight loss.
Lee Cummard contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for BYU (17-5, 5-3 Mountain West), and Chris Miles scored 10. Tavernari became the 39th member of BYU's 1,000-point club with two free throws early in the second half.
The Cougars squandered a 13-point lead, falling behind 45-43 with 10 minutes, 14 seconds remaining, but went on a 26-3 run to secure their third win in four games.
Air Force (9-12, 0-8) was infused with energy thanks to a cache of freshmen, three of whom were making their first start. The five freshmen combined for 21 points, as Sammy Schafer led the way with a season-high 12.
Matt Holland scored 13 to lead Air Force.
• New Mexico 86, Wyoming 57 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Chad Toppert equaled his season high for 3-pointers with five and scored 17 points to lead the Lobos over the Cowboys.
New Mexico (14-9, 5-3) held Wyoming (14-8, 3-5) to a season-low point total, with Sean Ogirri leading the Cowboys with 16 points.
Toppert had plenty of help, with Roman Martinez scoring 15 and Tony Danridge and Daniel Faris each contributing 11.
New Mexico never trailed and got off to an 11-3 lead. Although Wyoming cut the deficit to 11-10 on a 3-pointer from Brandon Ewing at the 11:10 mark, the Lobos outscored Wyoming 30-10 the rest of the way before halftime.
