Creighton rallies from 17 down to beat Aztecs

SAN DIEGO -- Doug McDermott had 25 points and 12 rebounds in leading Creighton to an 85-83 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday night as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge.

The Bluejays (6-0), who trailed by 17 points in the first half, took a 72-69 lead when Ethan Wragge hit one of his four 3-pointers with 3:34 remaining.

The Aztecs (7-2) came back to within a point at 82-81 when Jamaal Franklin, who had 19 points, drained a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left.

Wragge, who had 19 points, hit a layup on a perfect feed from Jahenns Manigat to make it 84-81.

San Diego State's Xavier Thames, who had a team-high 21 points, hit a pair of free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 84-83. Manigat was fouled and hit his first free throw, and the Bluejays rebounded his second attempt to secure the win.

Antoine Young had 18 points for Creighton.

Chase Tapley scored 15 points and James Rahon 11 for the Aztecs, who lost their first home game of the season after five straight victories.

McDermott, son of Creighton coach Greg McDermott, had his biggest basket on a put-back with 1:28 left to give Creighton an 80-75 lead.

McDermott, Wragge and Young helped fuel the Bluejays' 21-8 run over the final 6:28 of the first half. The surge helped Creighton trail only 39-35 at intermission.

■ Colorado State 65, Colorado 64 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., Dorian Green made a layup with 9.5 seconds left to give the Rams a victory over the Buffaloes.

Wes Eikmeier had 19 points for Colorado State (5-2), which has won three straight, and Green finished with nine.

Spencer Dinwiddie matched a career-high with 16 points to lead Colorado (4-3). Austin Dufault had 13 and Nate Tomlinson, who missed a 3-pointer as time expired, added 11.

Tomlinson gave Colorado a 64-63 lead with a shot in the paint, but Green beat the Colorado defense down the court for the game-winning layup.

■ New Mexico 65, Idaho State 41 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., the Lobos used a balanced scoring attack and a dominating rebounding performance to defeat the Bengals.

A.J. Hardeman and Demetrius Walker scored nine points each for New Mexico (5-2); Drew Gordon equaled a season-high with 13 rebounds and added eight points; Jamal Fenton also had eight points; and Hugh Greenwood and Kendall Williams had seven each.

Melvin Morgan scored 23 for Idaho State (1-5), but no other Bengal scored more than five points.

■ Texas Christian 77, Lamar 72 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Kyan Anderson scored 15 points and J.R. Cadot added 14 as the Horned Frogs beat the Cardinals.

TCU (5-2) led most of the way, taking its largest lead of 12 points late in the first half. Anderson made 7 of 12 from the field.

The Cardinals (4-3) went on a 10-1 run to close the gap early in the second half. They pulled ahead by three with 12:46 left when Charlie Harper made a layup and two free throws.

TCU quickly retook the lead and never gave it back.

Harper finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Miles also scored 21 for the Cardinals and Devon Lamb 11.

Garlon Green scored 12 points for TCU, Amric Fields added 10 and Craig Williams grabbed 13 rebounds.

■ Boise State 108, Drake 64 -- At Boise, Idaho, Drew Wiley scored a season-high 17 points and hit all five 3-point attempts to lead the Broncos past the Bulldogs.

Kenny Buckner scored 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Thomas Bropleh also had 16 as Boise State (5-1) recorded season highs for points and 3-pointers with 14.

Anthony Drmic added 15 points for Boise State, which shot 61 percent and outrebounded Drake 43-24.

Rayvonte Rice scored 19 points and Ben Simons 14 for Drake (4-3).

■ Wyoming 74, Utah Valley 41 -- At Laramie, Wyo., Leonard Washington scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Cowboys to a victory over the Wolverines.

Francisco Cruz added 11 points for Wyoming (7-1), which won its fifth straight.
