Curfews could curtail groupies at Super Bowl

Attention all gold-diggers: Want to score with a Super Bowl athlete? Stephanie Ogbobu claims she can help.

Ogbobu, who is 27 and lives in Austin, Texas, has a website dedicated to groupies and offers suggestions for women who want to get their hooks into a player -- and his wallet. She suggests dressing provocatively and hanging around hotel swimming pools, bars, restaurants and nightclubs along with using social media outlets to hook up with an athlete.

She also suggested crashing some of the big pre-Super Bowl parties in Indianapolis this week as a way to get a stilettoed-toe in the door. Or staking out the hotel lobby at 3 a.m.

But that likely is flawed thinking given the Giants and Patriots have team curfews this week and it's unlikely Hakeem Nicks will be trolling the lobby of the Downtown Marriott at 3 a.m.

■ LANDA HONORED -- Howie Landa, a former UNLV assistant basketball coach for the men and women, is getting the ultimate honor -- his name on a court.

Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, N.J., will honor Landa on Sept. 15 by naming its basketball court after him. Landa won a junior college national title with the Vikings in 1973 and in 21 seasons had a 555-152 record.

"The thing that makes it so big is all the kids who played for me that went on to have successful lives," said Landa, 80, who lives in Henderson and still does youth basketball clinics in town.

Landa was on Jerry Tarkanian's staff in 1989 and was with Tim Grgurich in 1994. He was co-head coach with Cleveland Edwards when Grgurich took a medical leave of absence during the 1994-95 season. He also worked as an assistant with the Lady Rebels from 1990 to 1993.

■ GIANT BAD BET -- It happens every year. Some guy makes a bet with a friend, loses and winds up looking like an imbecile.

Meet Ray Angelo, who owns a bagel shop on Long Island and is a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He was so sure the Giants wouldn't make it to the Super Bowl, he offered to wear a Giants jersey if they did. He also was willing to put on a blue G-string.

Angelo made good on the wager last weekend, parading outside his store in a Big Blue jersey with a sign that read, "The Giants Are My Daddy."

■ OSI SCREWS UP -- Want to lose $20,000 in less than two hours without going to the Strip? Do what defensive end Osi Umenyiora did and skip the Giants' Super Bowl media session Wednesday morning.

Umenyiora was the only player who failed to appear for his media responsibilities and was fined $20,000 by the NFL for the miss. He blamed a scheduling mix-up for his no-show. But it's curious that he was the only one who didn't make it since all the Giants were scheduled to be at the same place at the same time.

Umenyiora probably slept in and didn't get the wake-up call. He apologized for the mistake at Thursday's session.
