Dawson’s left hand injured; title fight off
The March 14 IBF light heavyweight title fight between Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver at the Palms has been postponed after Dawson suffered an injury in training.
Dawson's promoter, Gary Shaw, said the fighter sustained ligament damage in his left hand while sparring Tuesday, is expected to be in a soft cast for at least two weeks and then will be re-evaluated.
"We're hoping to bring the fight back to the Palms at some point," Shaw said Wednesday.
Dawson (27-0, 17 knockouts) won a 12-round unanimous decision over Tarver (27-5, 19 KOs) on Oct. 11 at the Palms. Tarver then exercised a rematch clause in his contract.
People who purchased tickets by telephone or on the Internet will be refunded. Those who bought tickets at a Ticketmaster outlet or the Palms box office must return to the point of purchase for a refund.
