Eagles earn playoff spot

Spring Mountain earned more than a bounce-back victory Friday.

The Eagles also clinched a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2005 with a 54-12 win at Henderson International in the Class 1A Southern League.

"I'm really proud because I know Spring Mountain hasn't been in the playoffs for a while, and I'm happy to be part of something," Eagles tight end Marquise Lewis said. "Last week was just an off week for us. I'm happy we came out here and took care of business."

Coming off a 72-18 loss at defending 1A state champion Pahranagat Valley, Spring Mountain fell behind 6-0 midway through the first quarter but responded with 54 unanswered points.

"It's huge," Eagles coach Aaron Masden said of clinching a playoff spot. "We've got to start with these guys in the middle of August, most of them never playing football before.

"To get them to gel together, understand the game and get into the playoffs is a great testament to the hard work these kids are doing."
