Ellis’ flawless shooting propels Wolf Pack past Louisiana Tech
RUSTON, La. -- Seven-foot center David Ellis made all seven of his field-goal attempts for 14 points, and UNR's big men wore down Louisiana Tech in the second half for an 83-70 victory Saturday.
UNR (12-7, 4-2 Western Athletic Conference) shot 61 percent from the field and held Louisiana Tech (3-15, 0-6) to 38 percent.
Louisiana Tech had a slim lead for much of the first half, its biggest edge being 18-14 before a 6-1 run put the Wolf Pack ahead. The teams traded baskets until a layup by Ray Kraemer triggered a 17-8 spurt that gave UNR a 42-31 halftime lead.
Keyed by big men Ellis and JaVale McGee, UNR pulled away in the second half, leading by 19 points. McGee and Armon Johnson each finished with 12 points and Marcelus Kemp 11.
Louisiana Tech's Kyle Gibson led all scorers with 18 points, hitting 10 of 12 free throws. Jonathan Clark scored 15 and Drew Washington 11.
