Engel passes Mountain View to 46-0 victory

Mountain View's football team took a while to get acclimated to its first season at the 11-man level last year.

But after an 0-5 start, the Saints won five of their next six games before bowing out in the Class 2A state semifinals. They appear to have picked up where they left off.

Junior quarterback T.J. Engel threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns to lead Mountain View (2-1) to a 46-0 rout of visiting Foothills Christian (Calif.) on Saturday.

"Having the majority of our skill (position) guys back has allowed us to get off a little bit quicker and smoother in the second year of the (spread) offense," Mountain View coach Ray LeBoeuf said. "T.J. was able to run it all last year as a JV quarterback, so I think that contributed a lot to it."

Engel completed 10 of 11 passes. He also carried eight times for 84 yards and two touchdowns, including a 57-yard run down the left sideline on the game's first play from scrimmage.

Cortland LeBoeuf rushed for 112 yards and one TD on 14 carries, and caught three passes for 66 yards for the Saints, who led 22-0 after the first quarter.
