Fishing Report, 10/13/11

■ LAKE MEAD -- Action has been spotty for stripers and catfish using cut anchovies and sardines. Stripers in the 20-inch range have been hitting cut anchovies in 6 to 20 feet of water, though anglers also are finding top-water action. Catfish anglers generally are doing well in the upper and lower basins using cut anchovies and commercial baits. The best action is taking place from the evening hours through the night. Bass anglers are catching largemouth and smallmouth bass in areas with newly flooded brush.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing for striped bass has been good. Bass in the 30-pound range are being landed while trolling troutlike lures and swim baits. Anglers are finding the best action between mile markers 48 and 52. The trout bite remains good, with anglers using Power Bait, salmon eggs and worms. Super Dupers and castmasters reportedly are ensuring many limits being filled. Striper fishing remains sluggish in the Cottonwood Cove area, but anglers still are catching a few fish. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants rainbow trout every Friday.

■ LAUGHLIN -- Action for striped and smallmouth bass has slowed along the river below Davis Dam. The fish are keying in on crayfish. Rainbow trout action is picking up.

■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted catfish in each of the ponds -- Sunset, Boulder City, Floyd Lamb and Hafen Park in Mesquite -- on Wednesday. Anglers also can find success for bluegill and even a few largemouth bass at Floyd Lamb Park.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Largemouth bass are hitting Senkos, frogs and other plastics. Mornings and evenings are best, but you can catch fish during the midday hours by focusing on shaded areas in the tule beds. Trout action is slow.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Fish are hitting on a variety of lures and spinners, as well as PowerBait and night crawlers. The best bite takes place in the morning and evening.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The reservoir is fishing well for largemouth bass and crappie. Fish are taking bait below a bobber and just about any bass lure. Rainbow trout still are taking powerbait and night crawlers. The best action is in the morning and evening.
