FISHING REPORT
• LAKE MEAD -- High winds made conditions difficult last week, but cooler weather provided good fishing last weekend. Anglers jigging or using top-water baits reported fair success for stripers in the Vegas Wash area. Cut anchovies are catching some stripers and cats on the bottom. Hemenway and the beach area have been slow. One boating angler reported success with anchovies near the tires at Hemenway in the evening.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers could see a large number of fish but caught only a few after the weekly trout plant at Willow Beach on Friday. Anglers caught a variety of fish down river, including 14-inch trout near Jumbo Wash Island along with largemouth bass and bluegill past Powerline Cove. Several stripers weighing from 12 to 25 pounds took AC plugs. Striper fishing has slowed at Cottonwood Cove. Cut baits, such as anchovies, continue to be the baits of choice at night. Catfish are taking a variety of baits, including anchovies and PowerBait, fished on the bottom.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Anglers are doing well after the catfish plant last week.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Bass fishing has reached its peak and is slowing down due to the lack of access caused by weed growth. Anglers will have some new water to fish when Dacey and other areas that were closed for waterfowl nesting open again Aug. 16.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers have reported good fishing. PowerBait is still the top choice for rainbows.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The weeds are a nuisance for trout anglers but not for bass fishermen. Crappie continue to bite jigs and gizmo flies, a local wooly fly pattern that is white with a dark contrasting color tied in.
