FISHING REPORT
September 24, 2009 - 9:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Anglers continue to find stripers in the Vegas Arm area. Successful techniques have been top-water lures and jigging off the bottom. Anglers also have reported success using live shad.
Fishing for stripers outside Boulder Harbor toward the Dive Beach area has been fair using top-water lures. Boulder Beach and Hemenway Beach have been slow.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Willow Beach yielded good fishing in the morning immediately after the weekly trout plant. Successful baits included PowerBait and small Super Dupers.
Striper fishing at Cottonwood Cove has been fair, with a few 2- to 4-pound fish caught with anchovies. Catfish anglers have enjoyed consistent success with cut baits such as anchovies and sardines fished off the bottom. Fishing is best in the morning and late-afternoon to evening hours.
• URBAN PONDS -- Catfish continue to be caught but at a slower rate. The best times have been in the early morning. Panfish and bass are biting throughout the day but better in the morning.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Cooler weather continues to improve trout fishing, with bass fishing remaining fair to good. Anglers have been using flies near the surface during the cooler hours and switching to deeper presentations when the temperature warms.
With the first freeze around the corner, weeds should start to deteriorate, thus improving success for bait fishermen.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers continue to catch rainbows in the morning and tiger trout throughout the day. Still-fishing with PowerBait has been the most popular technique.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Trout fishing is improving, with the better fishing in the morning. Baits of choice continue to be worms with marshmallow combos as well as PowerBait. Fly fishers have been catching trout and bass with subsurface flies.
There is no report on crappie, but success is expected to be fair unless the temperature warms again.
