FISHING REPORT
July 9, 2009 - 9:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Windy conditions have made fishing difficult. Boils are still showing up at Boulder Beach, but anglers are having little success.
Boating anglers are hauling in stripers in the Vegas Wash arm using top-water lures. Boulder Harbor and 33 Hole are producing catfish and stripers with anchovies as bait.
Early morning has been the best time.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing at Cottonwood Cove has been fair with stripers and catfish providing most of the action. Catfish are taking anchovies and PowerBait. Action has been slow for largemouth and smallmouth bass.
Trout fishing at Willow Beach tends to be best in the mornings, right after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fish plants.
• URBAN PONDS -- Stink baits and night crawlers fished on the bottom are taking whisker fish.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Trout have slowed down, and bass fishing is most productive in the weed beds.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers are catching trout by fishing on the bottom or using a bobber with a leader below the surface. The best fishing has been with PowerBait, worms, lures and flies.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- With trout fishing on the slow side, anglers are targeting crappie and bass. Multicolored buggers fished with a bobber or strike indicator are still producing good-sized crappie near the back of the reservoir.
Bass anglers have been catching largemouth in the evening hours with top-water lures.
