FISHING REPORT
September 17, 2009 - 9:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Stripers are being caught in the Vegas Wash Arm with top-water and jigging techniques. Anglers have had success later in the day with lures, and with bait such as anchovies fished at night.
Fishing at Boulder Beach has been fair to slow, with a few stripers or catfish reported.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers are finding success with worms and Super Dupers after weekly trout plants at Willow Beach. Stripers from 15 to 20 pounds still are being caught downriver.
At Cottonwood Cove north of the marina, anglers reported catching stripers in the 2- to 4-pound range while still-fishing with cut anchovies. Stripers are showing up in 30 feet of water on fish-finders. Catfish continue to bite cut anchovies fished on the bottom. Fishing is best in the morning and late afternoon to evening hours.
• URBAN PONDS -- Catfish are hitting at all the ponds. Baits of choice include worms, shrimp and hot dogs.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers using flies or lures are catching trout at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Bass fishing has been good with the better fishing during low-light hours.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Tigers are striking near the northern part of the lake for shore fishermen with a few fish coming in over 2 pounds. Morning has been the best time to fish for rainbows using PowerBait. Anglers are encouraged to keep their bait still or use a float to avoid the weeds.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Rainbows have been biting during the morning hours on night crawlers and marshmallow combinations, as well as PowerBait.
