FISHING REPORT
• LAKE MEAD -- Top-water action has been good in recent weeks for stripers. With shad spawning in the shallows around the Vegas Wash arm, lures imitating shad, as well as live shad, have been the baits of choice.
Boulder Beach and Boulder Harbor have been slow from shore but more successful by boat. Catfish have been caught in the back of the Vegas Wash using anchovies.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Willow Beach trout anglers had success for stocked rainbows after Friday's plants. The fish hit on a variety of hardware, including Little Jakes and Super Dupers. PowerBait and salmon eggs also caught fish. Striper fishing was slow.
Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove found fair action from the shoreline and boats. Stripers in the 2- to 4-pound range are hitting on cut bait -- sardines, anchovies and squid. Whisker fish are taking a variety of prepared baits. Top-water and shallow-diving lures are fooling some bucket mouths and smallies, though the action is only fair.
• URBAN PONDS -- Sunfish are biting at all the ponds. Worms and small flies work great, especially when taking the kids out. Catfish are scheduled to be stocked next week, just in time for Free Fishing Day on June 13.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reminds anglers there is a three-fish limit at all ponds, regardless of species.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers are catching trout with lures, flies and bait, but the fish are moving to deeper, cooler water. Bass anglers are having success for scrappy bucket mouths.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Trout fishing is still good for planters using PowerBait, worms, lures and flies. Weeds are starting to become a nuisance for anglers fishing off the bottom. An option is to fish floating baits on a slip rig with a long leader.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Though weeds are starting to grow, PowerBait, worms, and flies are still catching rainbow trout. Look for largemouth bass near weeds and other structures. White/black- or white/brown-colored buggers have been productive for crappie.
