FISHING REPORT

• LAKE MEAD -- Fishing along the beaches between Hemenway and the swim beach has picked up in the past week. Keep in mind, fishing is prohibited within the marked swimming area. Most anglers are netting shad in the morning and using them as bait. Anglers are still catching stripers in the Vegas Arm with live shad and top-water lures. The best time for stripers has been in the morning before the winds come up or late afternoon. Catfish action should be good in the coves during the cooler hours of the day.

• LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing for trout was slow at Willow Beach last weekend. No reports about striper fishing other than a 25-pound fish taken by a spear fisherman near mile-marker 23. Meanwhile, striper fishing at Cottonwood cove was fair for fish in the 2- to 4-pound class. Anglers reported fair success for largemouth bass up to 4 pounds using jigs and worms fishing near the bottom in shallow coves. Catfish up to 3 pounds have been biting several baits such as anchovies and homemade stink baits.

• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- NDOW plans call for catfish to be planted today. Sunfish are biting on worms with small hooks.

• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Trout fishing has been fair, with fish being caught on lures, flies and bait. Bass anglers also are finding action.

• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers using PowerBait, worms, lures and flies are catching planter trout. Weeds are becoming a nuisance.

• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- PowerBait, worms, lures and flies are the baits of choice for rainbow trout. Multicolored buggers still are producing good-sized crappie. Bass anglers are finding fish in the weeds and other structure in the lake.
