FISHING REPORT
January 15, 2009 - 10:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- It has been a slow week for stripers. Even regulars are having difficulty catching fish, though trout imitations are catching a few big fish.
In the Vegas Bay arm, anglers have had minimal success with cut bait. Shore fishermen caught some limits of trout at Crawdad Cove following Friday's plant.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Trout fishing continues to be slow, but that should change when the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery resumes stocking Friday. Striper fishing has been slow as well, though anglers caught stripers weighing between 3 and 12 pounds near Aztec Wash last weekend. One fish was just over 25 pounds.
Near Cottonwood Cove, anglers have had success trolling with anchovies, sardines and squid. Largemouth anglers are hitting shallow-diving and top-water lures.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Trout activity remains consistent. PowerBait, lures and flies with small hooks are having success. The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked ponds in Las Vegas and Boulder City on Tuesday.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Reservoirs on the area are covered with ice, but conditions change almost daily. Use caution when approaching the ice.
Anglers are encouraged to call the management area for ice conditions at 775-238-0240.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- The ice is 7 to 9 inches thick, but hard-water fishing is slow.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- This location is unsafe because of ice conditions.
