FISHING REPORT

LAKE MEAD -- The beach area has been slow for shore anglers. Some fishermen are using a jigging technique to take striped bass.

From 33 Hole to Gypsum Wash, anglers are finding good top-water action.

Largemouth bass have been taking baits offered up by anglers fishing out of Callville Bay.

LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing remains good from the shore or from boats in the Cottonwood Cove area. Bait and top-water or shallow-diving lures are taking striped bass. Boaters are catching fish while trolling with prepared bait or still-fishing in coves to the north and south of the marina. Catfish also are in the mix. Late afternoon and evenings have been the most productive times to fish.

At Willow Beach, fishing was slow over the weekend, although striped bass action has been picking up. A pair of 5-pound stripers were caught on a Bomber Long A lure near mile marker 52.

Anglers are using the new fishing pier with some success. Trout are taking PowerBait, spinners and spoons.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Nevada Department of Wildlife plans called for catfish to be stocked in each of the ponds Wednesday, about a week ahead of schedule. Hafen Park pond in Mesquite will not be stocked this month.

Action for bluegill is good at Floyd Lamb Park. The feisty fish are taking mealworms or pieces of earthworms fished on the bottom.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers will find an algae bloom in the water, but stocked rainbow trout are still biting. Early morning and evening hours are the most productive. Spinners, PowerBait and worms are all catching. Action is sluggish.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The water level is low, and weed growth is making fishing difficult for shore and boat anglers.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Largemouth bass and rainbow trout are hitting. Anglers are catching limits of bass in the 11-inch range, but fish to 6 pounds also are being caught.

Adams-McGill has come back from the NDOW dredging project in 2002-03 and is fishing well.

Trout anglers are finding the best action at Haymeadow and Cold Springs.

ELY AREA -- Fishing has been good at Cave Lake, with small spinners, worms and PowerBait taking trout.

The water level is dropping at Illipah due to irrigation needs, but fishing for rainbow and brown trout should be good. PowerBait and worms generally work well for bait anglers. Fly fishermen might want to try nymph patterns or Woolly Buggers.
